watched Vice documentaries about the Uyghur genocide and Taliban with journalist Isobel Yeung today
It reminded me of what Kōshō Uchiyama wrote: "Being born in any age or in any place is a possibility, an accident, just as my being here right now is an accident." I happened to be born in a country that's known for their niceness. I happened to be born in a country that's considered one of the "good ones" of the West. Thanks to my mother's hard work, I am in a country that for the most part (sometimes with a squint) provides a positive contrast to governments in those documentaries, also considered one of the "good ones" depending on the issue at hand. I don't know. I think I need to appreciate how lucky I am while trying to be there for people who weren't as lucky.
